GT Global, a multi-business organization that specializes in automotive, logistics, plastic manufacturing, and investment services, inaugurated the GT+logistics Intermodal Terminal in Altamira, Tamaulipas. The terminal represents an investment of over US$6.8 million and aims to continue fostering investing in the southern region of the state.
The Intermodal Terminal has rail-capable facilities designed to enhance efficiency in moving and safeguarding goods. In a press release, GT Global showcases the train’s advanced infrastructure, which includes a shipyard capacity of 10,000m2 for the safe and efficient handling and storage of goods.
The terminal has rail spurs with capacity to store up to 60 rail cars, facilitating a constant and efficient flow of cargo. In the press release, GT Group also says that the terminal will create 50 direct and 100 indirect jobs, strengthening southern Tamaulipas’ economy. The GT+logistics Intermodal Terminal also offers loading, unloading, cross-docking, and storing services. The company initially planned to invest US$4.3 million.
This terminal adds to GT Group’s 15 others, giving the company an installed capacity of 80,000m2 and presence in Mexico's main ports and cities, including Altamira, Nuevo Leon, Veracruz, Colima, Mexico City, and the State of Mexico. The terminal also boots Tamaulipas' connectivity. The state government announced last September that it is working to modernize the ports of Tampico and Altamira to create better conditions for balanced and sustainable economic development, as reported by MBN.
According to ASIPONA Altamira, the Port of Altamira is the fourth largest in the country and responsible for producing 30% of the country's petrochemicals. Furthermore, it hosts over 40 national and foreign companies and contributes about 11% of Tamaulipas’ GDP.
