From Transporting People to Transporting to People
STORY INLINE POST
Q: How did Deliver become a separate branch of Grupo Estrella Roja?
A: Dliver was part of Grupo Estrella Roja, which focuses on passenger, personnel and school transportation. However, 13 years ago investors decided to diversify their market and services, leading to the creation of Dliver. The latter company offers five different types of services including dry cargo, refrigerated cargo, last-mile delivery, oil and gas transportation and secondary distribution, which focuses on e-commerce customers. Dliver has over 400 delivery units across the country and manages its own resources and services from workshops to units; it does not subcontract.
Our main locations are in Mexico City and Tepotzotlan, State of Mexico. But we also have offices in: Guadalajara, Jalisco; Mexicali and Tijuana, Baja California; Chihuahua, Chihuahua; Monterrey, Nuevo Leon; and Puebla, Puebla. Our operations span throughout the entire country, including the Yucatan Peninsula. We handle over 4,000 shipments and over 20,000 deliveries per month.
We focus on transportation in Mexico but we also have operations in the US, where we provide transfer and door-to-door services with the help of strategic partners. This is the only part of our business in which we lean on third parties and we are very transparent with that. Our clients know about the third parties but we assure them that we maintain strict control to maintain our quality standards.
Q: Which are the main industries Dliver serves?
A: We serve a wide variety of industries. The food and beverage industry is our strongest business unit, followed by the consumer market, the textile sector and the oil and gas sector. For the latter, we decided to create a completely separate division with 50 teams focused on servicing PEMEX and other private companies that import products and distribute them among their gas station network. PEMEX represents 20% of our oil and gas branch, while the private sector represents 80%.
Q: How does Dliver sets itself apart from the competition?
A: Our level of service is remarkable. We monitor operations from a centralized control tower, use four different monitor systems and incorporate systems like Sky Angel. All of our drivers are certified by the R-Control certification. We perform random anti-doping tests among our drivers and work closely to ensure their health since they are our main asset.
We have a specialized area that monitors customer experience, which follows metrics like Service-level-agreement (SLA) and KPIs to generate descriptive dashboards that we review with clients to evaluate the service quality.
Q: What is the company’s approach toward sustainability?
A: All our units are diesel-fueled but we are transitioning to LP and compressed gas-fueled units. We have been conducting some tests to transition to those units because we are not convinced of switching to electric units, at least for now. The available technology in Mexico makes it costly to transition to electric vehicles. This problem compromises economic viability in such a competitive market as the logistics sector.
Q: How is Dliver going to harness the nearshoring phenomenon? Are there plans to change your business focus?
A: We already have facilities in Northern Mexico and are focusing on strengthening our infrastructure in that region. We aim to establish more value chains with strategic partners to enable us to move goods faster and provide door-to-door services. In Mexico, we already serve the manufacturing industry and companies with high demand for electronic devices. We offer those clients close follow ups, just-in-time deliveries and robust services to guarantee they receive their products in time.
In the future, we will continue to consolidate our presence in these sectors and diversify international operations to include door-to-door services. We will also provide cross-dock services, transferring goods from trucks to last-mile units.
Dliver, a Mexican logistics services provider that used to be part of Grupo Estrella Roja, specializes in delivering packages and handling cargo operations both within and outside of Mexico. With 13 years of experience, Dliver has become one of the country's largest cargo transportation companies.
