ENI Modifies Exploration Plan in Gulf of Mexico
Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi (ENI), has announced an update to its exploration plan for contract CNH-R02-L04-AP-CS-G05/2018. This update includes a new investment of up to US$15 million.
The contract, under the license modality, pertains to a deepwater area in the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Veracruz. The total current area covered by the contract is 1,921 km2. CNH has revealed that there is an ongoing partial relinquishment process for 1,502km2, leaving a retained area of 419 km2.
This adjustment is in response to technical changes following the drilling of the exploratory well Tlazotli-1EXP. The primary goal is to continue evaluating the oil potential and identify exploratory prospects within the contractual area by acquiring and processing geophysical data.
During a session of the CNH governing body, it was noted that the contractor did not present an estimate of prospective resources, as the modification does not include drilling new wells during the extended initial exploration period. The CNH analysis indicated that the proposed activities would enhance geological and oil knowledge of the subsurface, evaluate the oil potential, and maximize the strategic value of the contractual area.
