IMP Partners With CENAGAS, UAT To Advance Gas And Energy Projects
The Mexican Oil Institute (IMP) and the National Center for Control of Natural Gas (CENAGAS) have formalized a strategic collaboration to advance research, technological development, and innovation in Mexico’s natural gas transportation and storage sector. The agreement, signed during CENAGAS’s 11th anniversary, was attended by energy authorities, legislators, and representatives from key institutions.
Under the framework, the two organizations will conduct ongoing research, technical studies, and human capital development programs, aimed at strengthening operational safety and efficiency across the national system. Elizabeth Mar Juárez, IMP’s Director General, emphasized the value of combining expertise and resources. “Today, by joining efforts with CENAGAS, we reaffirm our conviction that the path toward a solid energy policy is built with science, knowledge, and collaboration. The sum of our capabilities is what gives true value to this agreement,” she said.
Cuitláhuac García, Director General, CENAGAS, highlighted that the partnership will enhance technological innovation and operational security within the Sistema de Transporte y Almacenamiento Nacional Integrado de Gas Natural (SISTRANGAS), a backbone of Mexico’s energy infrastructure. He noted that field supervision has been a priority, with teams visiting compression stations, pipelines, and strategic points nationwide to ensure reliability and safety.
The agreement aligns with broader energy policy objectives, including security, sovereignty, planning, and the transition toward cleaner energy, as underscored by Juan José Vidal Amaro, subsecretary of Hydrocarbons.
In parallel, IMP has also strengthened its academic collaborations. During the 2025 National Biofuels Meeting, the institute signed a partnership with the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) to advance training for energy sector professionals and foster joint research projects. Juárez noted that this collaboration “opens the door to strengthen research, talent development, and scientific and technological progress,” while UAT’s President Dámaso Anaya Alvarado emphasized the university’s role in preparing students for high-level projects in bio fules and energy transition initiatives.
