European Parliament Elections. President López Obrador expressed satisfaction with the progress of European progressive forces ahead of the upcoming June 9 elections. He noted that these forces have a significant opportunity, contrasting with conservatives who he believes have been overly dominant. López Obrador said the choice is between supporting the people and workers versus siding with those he calls “oligarchs, corrupt individuals, and authoritarians.”
He expressed hope for success for progressive forces, seeing it as vital for Europe's future. He concluded by highlighting the need for transformation rather than adhering to conservative economic policies, likening it to Mexico's quest for genuine change.
Political Stability. López Obrador acknowledged the ongoing violence in Mexico but argues that it remains highly localized. He attributes this violence to "special circumstances" related to the dominance of criminal gangs, clashes between these groups for control of "markets," and drug consumption within the country.
"Despite the discourse surrounding violence amid the electoral situation, Mexico maintains political stability; we can travel anywhere. While there are still issues of insecurity and violence, they are highly localized and stem from specific factors such as gang dominance, inter-group confrontations over markets, and drug consumption."
