Judicial Reform President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that the main reform of Plan C that he will support is that of the Judiciary. The reform is expected to be approved in September, when MORENA and its allies have the qualified majority in Congress, which is required for constitutional reforms. However, president-elect Claudia Sheinbaum assured that the reform will be thoroughly debated before being approved.
The judicial reform seeks to restructure power by popularly electing Supreme Court justices, reducing the Supreme Court plenary from 11 to nine justices, replacing the Federal Judiciary Council with an independent judicial administration body, prohibiting the Supreme Court from suspending laws, establishing maximum time limits of six months for the resolution of tax matters and one year for criminal matters, and renewing all Supreme Court justices' positions in 2025.
Pasta de Conchos. President López Obrador announced that if his government's goal of rescuing the bodies of the trapped miners is not achieved, Claudia Sheinbaum will continue the work. So far, the government has found remains of 13 of the victims but has not yet identified them.
In February 2006, an explosion at Pasta de Conchos mine 8 trapped 65 of the 73 miners working at the site. The accident was due to the accumulation of methane gas and was worsened by the unsafe conditions of the mine. López Obrador has signed a pact to begin an integrated plan to excavate the Pasta de Conchos mine and recover the remains of the miners who were buried in the accident.
Rocio Nahle. López Obrador congratulated Rocío Nahle of MORENA on winning the governorship of Veracruz with 58.9% of the votes on June 2. "It would have been deeply regrettable for corruption to make a comeback. I congratulate the people of Veracruz for their wisdom."
