IMSS Bienestar. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador celebrated Zoé Robledo, Director, IMSS, for his decision to remain with IMSS-Bienestar and for stepping back from his aspirations to become governor of Chiapas. “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Zoé; I will always remember that he was nominated as a candidate for Chiapas. One day, he approached me and said: ‘I have decided to stay because I believe what we are doing is of great importance.’”
IMSS-Bienestar was created on Aug. 31, 2022, with the aim of transforming the health system. It seeks to address the challenge of centralizing and consolidating health services in those federal entities that have voluntarily opted to federalize their state health systems. This new institution is also responsible for maintaining and upgrading health infrastructure, ensuring a reliable supply of medications, equipping healthcare facilities, and regularizing the workforce in the health sector. In the 23 states where it operates, over 53.2 million individuals without social security are now entitled to receive medical care. Recently, Sheinbaum announced that IMSS-Bienestar will be coordinated by the Ministry of Health.
