Summit of the Americas. President Claudia Sheinbaum will not attend the Summit of the Americas but is considering sending a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She reiterated her opposition to excluding Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. “I will not attend. We are evaluating if someone from the Foreign Ministry will go. We have never agreed to excluding any country. Right now, I need to focus on tending to the country,” she said.

Disaster Relief Funding. Although the Natural Disaster Fund has been discontinued, the federal government has allocated MX$19 billion for disaster relief, with MX$3 billion already disbursed. Sheinbaum assured that aid would reach communities affected by recent heavy rains, particularly Guerrero and Oaxaca, due to Hurricane Erick. “Resources are sufficient, and emergency response will not be spared,” she added.

Preliminary estimates indicate around 100,000 homes across five states suffered damage, though official figures will be released after the first census.

Ministry of Well-Beign Aid Rollout. Minister of Well-Being Ariadna Montiel confirmed the census of affected households in Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, Queretaro, and San Luis Potosi has begun. The first round of aid is expected by the end of the week. “Six hundred brigades with 3,000 personnel are conducting household visits across the five states,” she explained.
