Mexico, United States Advance Security Coordination
US Minister of State Marco Rubio arrived in Mexico on Tuesday afternoon to begin a working visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in security matters. He was welcomed at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) by Juan Ramón de la Fuente, Mexico’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Today, Rubio is scheduled to meet with President Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace, joined by members of Mexico’s Security Cabinet and the Foreign Affairs Ministry. The agenda will include discussions on regional security, cross-border crime, migration, and public health.
President Sheinbaum states that Mexico’s approach to the bilateral relationship is rooted in shared responsibility, mutual trust, respect for sovereignty, and cooperation without subordination. In remarks ahead of the meeting, she underscored that Mexico will not act unilaterally on border or security issues. Instead, she proposed that each country operate within its own territory while exchanging intelligence and information to address common challenges, including health threats that often cross borders.
The visit highlights the role of security and health as interconnected priorities in the bilateral agenda, reinforcing mechanisms for collaboration while maintaining clear respect for national sovereignty
