Purchase Offer for CIBanco. Following CIBanco’s announcement of a lawsuit against the US Department of the Treasury over accusations made against the bank, President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the institution “is within its rights if it chooses to proceed.” Sheinbaum highlighted that the US Treasury Department has extended the deadline for imposing sanctions on CIBanco, Vector Casa de Bolsa, and Intercam Banco. She also confirmed that a purchase offer for CIBanco has already been made.
“What is important is that the deadline for the sanctions was extended, and there is already an offer to buy these banks,” Sheinbaum stated.
Mayan Train Faces No Hacking Risk, but Two Incidents Recorded. A Mayan Train carriage derailed yesterday in the Izamal area of Yucatan. The unit sustained damage, but no passenger injuries were reported.
Oscar Lozano, Director General, Mayan Train, dismissed concerns about a potential cyberattack on the Mayan Train, explaining that the issue appeared to be a signaling failure. “It is not possible that someone intentionally switched the tracks to disrupt the train. There was no deliberate action,” Lozano said.
He acknowledged, however, that the Mayan Train has already experienced two operational failures, stressing that efforts remain focused on preventing further incidents.
FGR Opens Investigation Into Mayan Train Incident. Lozano also confirmed that Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has opened an investigation into the latest Mayan Train incident. He explained that the entire project is insured, but the insurance company requires a formal complaint in order to process the claim.
“Yes, an investigation is being opened because it is necessary, even for the insurer. The Mayan Train is fully insured, and the company must have an official report of the incident,” Sheinbaum added.
