The municipality of Jesus Maria, Aguascalientes reported record levels of recycling collection in the second edition of its Ecotrueque program. Organized by the local Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, the campaign collected 867 kilograms of recyclable material—more than double the 400 kilograms gathered in its first edition.

The program allows residents to exchange recyclable materials, such as PET, cardboard, and other waste, for points redeemable for plants and trees. Participants receive tree species suited to the local climate, including tronadora and tabachín, which are then planted in various areas throughout Jesus Maria.

Martina Garza, head of the Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability, said the results exceeded expectations and underscored strong public engagement. “In this edition, we collected 867 kilograms of material, which surpassed all expectations and demonstrated the community’s commitment,” she noted.

The most recent edition took place at the municipality’s main plaza, but officials plan to expand Ecotrueque to local delegations following its strong reception. According to Garza, this expansion aims to increase participation and extend the program’s environmental benefits across the community.
