Nestlé Exits Dairy Methane Alliance
Nestlé is leaving the Dairy Methane Action Alliance, a coalition founded in 2023 by the Environmental Defense Fund to reduce methane emissions in the dairy sector. The alliance’s founding members included Nestlé, Danone, General Mills, Kraft Heinz, and Lactalis USA, maker of Parmalat.
A Nestlé spokesperson confirmed the company’s departure. “As part of this process, we have decided to discontinue our membership of the Dairy Methane Action Alliance. We appreciate the Alliance’s ongoing work on methane emissions reductions in the dairy industry.” The company said the decision was part of a routine review of its membership in external organizations.
While Nestlé did not specify methane reductions in its departure statement, the company reported that its greenhouse gas emissions fell nearly 21% in 2024 compared to six years earlier. In 2023, the Switzerland-based food giant set targets to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050, even as its business continues to expand.
“Nestlé remains steadfast in delivering against the objectives in our Dairy Climate Plan and Net Zero Roadmap. These strategies continue to guide our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including methane, throughout our supply chain," the spokesperson said.
