Someone Somewhere has formed a strategic alliance with Decathlon to integrate its Circuloom recycling technology into outdoor adventure gear, reducing textile waste and promoting climate-neutral production. The partnership was announced as part of Decathlon’s preparations for its 50th anniversary in 2026.
The launch focuses on Decathlon’s 10-liter hiking backpack, which is being redesigned by Someone Somewhere using artisanal techniques and sustainable materials. The bag incorporates the company’s Circuloom technology, a textile innovation that repurposes recycled fabric waste into new products. The production process requires no water or chemicals and relies on traditional Mexican looms, presenting a circular model for the outdoor goods industry.
“This collaboration strengthens our philosophy by promoting positive social and environmental impact while supporting sports practice,” said Miguel Ángel Sánchez, CEO, Decathlon Mexico. He described the backpack as “the perfect canvas” for combining functionality with cultural design and noted that the initiative advances Decathlon’s innovation and sustainability commitments.
Fátima Álvarez, co-founder and chief impact officer, Someone Somewhere, said the alliance reflects a shared vision to “equip people to discover and care for the world.” She emphasized that each backpack combines artisanal processes with sustainable materials, benefiting both communities and the environment.
The partnership builds on Someone Somewhere’s Aug. 25 alliance with IKEA Mexico. As part of the program, IKEA customers brought in textile waste—such as polyester or cotton sheets, pillowcases, and tablecloths—to participating stores through Aug. 31. In exchange, participants received a coupon worth MX$200 (US$10) for use at IKEA. The collected textiles were then repurposed and will ultimately be transformed into a new product line of garments and accessories, sold in IKEA stores nationwide under the ÅTERSTÄLLA 2026 label.
Announcing the IKEA partnership on social media, Antonio Nuño, Co-founder and CEO, explained the multiple benefits of corporate collaboration with Someone Somewhere. “With your help, we are able to give new life to tons of textiles and create dignified jobs for artisan communities,” he said. He added that the process allows customers to access environmentally conscious products without compromising on style.
Founded in 2014, Someone Somewhere operates two brick-and-mortar stores in Mexico City and holds B-Corp certification, an internationally recognized distinction for social sustainability, environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
