State of Mexico Launches Green Policy Internships for UTVT
The Congress of the State of Mexico has introduced a new initiative offering student internships within the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainable Development (SMAyDS). The program allows students from the Universidad Tecnológica del Valle de Toluca (UTVT)—particularly those studying Environmental Engineering and Sustainability—to gain hands-on experience in environmental policymaking and implementation.
Interns will contribute to waste management, ecological conservation, climate policy, and sustainable development projects, actively participating in real environmental programs. The initiative is organized in partnership with the Secretariat of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (SECTI) and coordinated by Jorge Bernáldez García, Professor of Development, UTVT.
José Alberto Couttolenc, coordinator, Green Party (PVEM) in the State of Mexico Congress, said the initiative seeks to go beyond theoretical coursework by immersing students in real-world environmental challenges. “The youth of the State of Mexico will directly engage in initiatives that truly impact the care of our future,” he said.
Couttolenc also highlighted the leadership of Morena Governor Delfina Gómez in using education to advance sustainability goals, especially amid biodiversity loss, climate threats, and resource depletion. Emphasizing the program’s long-term vision, he added: “It is time to invest in young people, to focus on their development as agents of change, and to support every effort that turns their training into real actions that benefit the environment.”
