Mexico has surpassed Europe in total number of registered learners on Coursera. The company’s annual learning trends report, based on data from over 27 million Mexican users, underscores the increasing demand for AI skills as companies prioritize AI proficiency over experience.

“Looking ahead to 2025, the global push for AI literacy will only intensify, and we are committed to supporting Mexican students with accessible and job-relevant education to help them thrive in this AI-driven world,” declares Christian Hernández, Enterprise Director for Latin America, Coursera.

A survey revealed that 71% of employers prefer hiring candidates with AI skills, even if they have less experience, over those with more experience but no AI expertise. Furthermore, companies in Mexico are willing to offer 39% higher salaries for professionals proficient in AI, reports Coursera.

In 2024, enrollment in GenAI courses in Mexico quadrupled, reaching 68,000 registrations and positioning the country as the eighth-largest market for GenAI education globally, ahead of Brazil. On average, six learners signed up for GenAI content every minute, a sharp increase from one registration every three minutes in 2023.

Hernández emphasized that AI literacy will continue to gain momentum in 2025, and Coursera remains committed to providing accessible and work-relevant education for Mexican learners.

Six of the 10 fastest-growing technology skills in 2024 were related to cybersecurity and risk management, coinciding with a 71% year-on-year increase in cyberattacks. As companies face rising security threats, professionals with expertise in these areas are becoming increasingly valuable, explains Coursera.
