Mexican Students Win Research Awards in Colombia
Students from the State of Mexico received top honors at the 15th Latin American Meeting of Research Groups, Seedbeds and Leaders in Cartagena, Colombia, for projects in education and environmental sciences. In addition to these recognitions, the ceremony also highlighted the upcoming international participation of a student from the State of Mexico in a mathematics competition in China, reflecting the broader global engagement of academic talent from the region.
Among the awarded initiatives was a project focused on the design, construction and implementation of educational games, which earned first place in the Social and Behavioral Sciences category under the educational scope. Another project, which involved the development of a homemade solar water heater, received first place in the Environmental Sciences category and was ranked third overall at the event.
“These achievements are a reflection of the new State of Mexico, committed to progress and transformation, supported by the vision of Governor Delfina Gómez,” said Miguel Ángel Hernández, Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (SECTI).
Officials from SECTI, including the directors of Upper Secondary Education and Academic Strengthening, attended the event along with educators and administrators. The awards align with the state government’s ongoing efforts to promote an education model rooted in critical thinking, social justice and sustainability, and to position youth as key contributors to community advancement.
