The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) has made available a Digital School Health Record for primary education students across Mexico, says Mario Delgado, Minister of Public Education. The initiative forms part of the national strategy Vive Saludable, Vive Feliz (Live Healthy, Live Happy) backed by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The new digital health report compiles results from medical evaluations conducted during School Health Days. Parents or guardians can access the document by logging in with their Llave MX account, entering the student's CURP, and providing the contact information previously registered in the informed consent form.
This health record will also be included in the official report card issued at the end of the 2024–2025 school year, integrating physical health into the educational assessment process. According to the SEP, this move aims to support a more holistic educational model focused on student well-being.
Over 3 million children enrolled in public primary schools under the National Education System were evaluated by 7,744 health professionals. These included personnel from state and federal health services, IMSS nurses, DIF workers, and SEP staff. Together, they visited over 17,500 schools to carry out tasks such as weight and height measurements, visual acuity tests, dental check-ups, and workshops on healthy habits.
The nutritional section reports weight, height, and Body Mass Index (BMI), and issues recommendations when overweight or obesity is detected. Suggested actions may include medical consultations, dietary changes, or physical activity. In the vision module, results indicate whether a student requires further optometric evaluation and where it should be carried out. If eyeglasses are needed, they will be provided at no cost if the recommendation is followed. The dental health section notifies families of the presence of cavities and includes advice on fluoride varnish application and proper brushing techniques. Each module lists the relevant medical facility and appointment hours for follow-up care.
The digital report also provides contact numbers and service schedules for parents seeking clarification on their child’s health assessment.“Our girls, boys, and adolescents will grow up healthy and happy,” writes Delgado on X.
The Live Healthy, Live Happy strategy aims to reach 12 million students across 90,832 public elementary schools, reports MBN. Key components include the application of fluoride treatments every six months to help prevent tooth decay, and the enforcement of new regulations banning the sale and promotion of sugary drinks and junk food within school premises. These rules took effect on March 29, 2025.
These efforts reflect a broader recognition that schools serve as vital access points for preventive health services, effectively extending the reach of primary healthcare. By operating within educational settings, these services can reach broad segments of the population in a practical and efficient manner.
