Platzi, Ceneval Launch English Microcredentials in Mexico
The National Center for Higher Education Evaluation (Ceneval) and online learning platform Platzi announced a partnership to introduce three English-language microcredentials aimed at strengthening employability and professional mobility in Mexico. The certifications were presented on Sept. 10 during the Hecho en México event organized by the Ministry of Economy.
“With these microcredentials, we move toward education that is more relevant and linked to the country’s productive transformation,” said Carmen Enedina Rodríguez Armenta, Director General, Ceneval, in a press release.
The initiative combines Ceneval’s 31 years of experience in academic evaluation with Platzi’s digital training model. The microcredentials are designed to meet growing business demand for specialized English proficiency, particularly in industries competing in international markets.
The three certifications are part of the new “Ceneval Certifica” family of programs. They include: Executive English C1 with a focus on global leadership and international business; Technical Professional English B2 for technology, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing; and Global Tourism English B1 for hospitality services and gastronomy.
According to Ceneval and Platzi, the credentials are entirely digital, offered in real time, and recognized internationally. Built on blockchain technology, they are designed to be tamper-proof and verifiable, offering companies an immediate way to confirm skills. They align with national and global standards, and aim to provide workers with credentials that are quicker to obtain and more directly linked to job market requirements than traditional programs.
The portfolio is aligned with Plan México and targets strategic sectors such as automotive, aerospace, technology, and tourism. Organizers emphasized its relevance ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is expected to increase demand for bilingual professionals in tourism and related services.
“From Platzi, we believe that the future of employability depends on combining flexible learning with certifications that are solid and recognized. With Ceneval’s support, we are taking a decisive step to ensure that thousands of Mexicans can access better professional opportunities,” said Isabel Prieto, Director, Platzi Mexico.
The announcement was made in the context of Ceneval receiving the Hecho en México distinction, which the Ministry of Economy grants to national initiatives with global reach. Business chambers, academic leaders, technology executives, and representatives from the public and social sectors attended the presentation.
By connecting education providers with industry needs, the initiative seeks to address the demand for both technical and transversal skills with certifications that have national and international recognition.
