The Pride of Belonging: Corporate Commitment Beyond the Office
STORY INLINE POST
A company that respects the community that welcomes it, and actively contributes to its development, creates a reciprocal bond with its employees. This means organizations must take their responsibility to the country seriously, which includes creating secure jobs, respecting local culture, and contributing to social development.
By doing so, companies take on the role of a socially responsible corporate citizen, bringing significant benefits to both the organization and the communities it serves. It also sends a powerful message to employees: they work for a company that cares not only about them, but also about the environment and society they are part of.
This becomes evident when considering that various studies have found corporate social responsibility (CSR) significantly impacts employee engagement and retention. It fosters positive work environments, strengthens emotional connection to the organization, and makes employees more likely to remain committed.
That’s exactly what I thought when we launched our campaign “Expande lo increíble de México” (Expanding the Incredible Side of Mexico) at Samsung Mexico. Together with Google, we’re encouraging users to plan experiences and explore Mexico’s tourist destinations. The goal is to contribute positively to Mexico’s image, not only as a hub for innovation and digital inclusion, but also as a country rich in culture, cuisine, breathtaking natural beauty, and extraordinary people.
Using AI tools, we invite users to explore tourism, gastronomy, and culture, sectors that contribute around 13% of Mexico’s GDP, with tourism alone accounting for 8.6%. At the same time, the campaign promotes influencer marketing and content creation, which now includes more than 3.3 million creators in the country.
More than a marketing effort, we see this campaign as a way to share how Samsung understands its role as both a social and economic player in Mexico by supporting key sectors of the economy, contributing to social, cultural, and economic well-being, and showing our employees how technology and innovation can align with cultural respect, community responsibility, and opportunity creation.
The Pride of Belonging
Being part of the human resources team at a global company means emphasizing the importance of respect and commitment to the host country. This commitment can take many forms: employment, social investment, cultural respect, or support during times of need. It helps employees feel part of a company that goes beyond economic gain, one that adds real value to society.
In this context, Mexico is one of Samsung’s three most important markets in Latin America. Our regional operations generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, as well as exports that position the country as a key manufacturing hub for both North and Latin America.
And referring to Mexico as a “manufacturing hub” is no exaggeration. The country has two Samsung production plants, one in Queretaro and another in Tijuana, that produce screens and home appliances for both local and regional markets.
The Queretaro plant alone produces over 4 million units per year. Of that total, 20% serves the Mexican market, while the remaining 80% is exported to North and South America.
This is a responsible production model, backed by multiple certifications, including ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, ISO 9001, SCA for energy testing in REF, RBA, and the Empresa Comprometida con los Derechos Humanos (Company Committed to Human Rights) award from the municipality of Queretaro. Additionally, we promote initiatives focused on the physical and mental health of local residents, including environmental projects certified by Pronatura Noroeste.
A Commitment to Education
This presence is reinforced by a core belief that education and technology are engines of empowerment and community transformation. That’s why we support programs that inspire students and teachers to reach their full potential and become the next generation of leaders driving positive social change.
Through initiatives like Solve for Tomorrow, more than 222,000 students and teachers from 11,000 public schools across Latin America have participated since 2014 in projects that combine innovation and technology to solve real problems in their communities. Similarly, with Samsung Innovation Campus, we offer training in high-demand digital and tech skills like AI, strengthening the young talent that will shape Mexico’s future.
These programs are complemented by volunteer initiatives, where we invite our employees to actively participate. Thanks to this joint effort, over 23,000 volunteer hours have been invested across Latin America, a sign of how positive impact goes beyond office walls and becomes a shared experience among the company, the community, and our teams.
This creates a virtuous circle where education and innovation are nurtured in communities, while teams gain the opportunity to feel the pride and satisfaction of contributing directly to social development in their country and region.
Being part of a global company means ensuring that commitment to the host country goes beyond technology, innovation, or economic contribution. It’s also about how we inspire employees to actively embrace this purpose.
When we create secure jobs, respect culture, and contribute to social development, we build a bond of reciprocity with the people and the community. That commitment translates into pride, motivation, and trust for our teams; and into a positive impact that goes beyond the workplace to help build more prosperous and inclusive countries for everyone.
