SEP Enables Online Access to High School Certificates
The Mexican Ministry of Public Education (SEP) announced that certificates for upper secondary education issued since 2017 are now available for electronic download through the national educational platform SIGED. This digital initiative aims to streamline certification and support student transitions within the education system.
"The electronic certification improves the recognition of general and technical high school studies and enables more agile, accessible processes consistent with current digital demands," says Mario Delgado, Minister of Education.
The move responds to the growing need for standardized, reliable documentation across the national education system, notes the report. Since 2017, more than 628,000 electronic certificates have been issued, including both full completion certificates and partial study recognitions. These certificates cover graduates from various modalities, including traditional classroom learning, mixed models, and non-school-based programs such as virtual education.
The data, provided by the Deputy Ministry of Upper Secondary Education, details that 619,542 certificates correspond to full study completion with professional training, while 8,633 are partial certificates. The certification benefits over 500,000 students in the school-based system, nearly 22,000 in mixed modes, and over 68,000 in non-school modalities.
The SEP also introduced a dual certification system starting with the 2025–2026 academic cycle. Each graduate will receive two certificates: one confirming completion of upper secondary education and another certifying professional formation at basic, technical, or technological levels. This second certification is designed to enhance graduates' employability and reinforce upper secondary education as a solid bridge to higher education.
Institutions with the highest volume of certificates issued include the Dirección General de Educación Tecnológica Industrial (DGETI), the Colegios de Estudios Científicos y Tecnológicos (CECyTE), the College Colegio de Bachilleres (COBACH), and the Colegio Nacional de Educación Profesional Técnica (CONALEP).
