Grupo Bimbo has implemented an App Engine platform to modernize its security and logistics processes, reducing entry times to its plants from 4 hours to just 15 minutes. The solution, developed in collaboration with ServiceNow, digitizes visitor, carrier and contractor records, eliminating manual processes and improving operational efficiency.

"Previously, registrations were paper-based, leading to delays and errors. With the new platform, we not only streamline processes, but also guarantee greater security and traceability," says Laura Velázquez, Head of Control and Access, Grupo Bimbo, during the ServiceNow User Group 2025. This innovation responds to the company's need to align its operations with its philosophy of being a highly productive and fully human organization.

Grupo Bimbo, founded in 1945, operates in 35 countries and manages over 100 brands. This global expansion has involved operational challenges, especially in the area of security and logistics. Until 2016, visitor and contractor registrations were performed manually, which generated delays of up to four hours, loss of documents and lack of control over people entering the facilities.

In 2017, the company implemented the Plant Access Control System (SCAP), which digitized records and improved access management. However, SCAP had limitations, such as the lack of integration with other systems and the impossibility of using it outside Grupo Bimbo's internal network. These restrictions motivated the search for a more robust and scalable solution, which culminated in the adoption of a new technological platform.

App Engine

App Engine integrates with the Plant Access Control System (SCAP) and offers advanced functionalities for access and logistics management. One of its main features is automated registration, which allows carriers and visitors to schedule appointments online, validate their documentation digitally and receive real-time notifications. This eliminates the need to carry physical documents and streamlines the process of entering the facilities.

Another feature is the security profile, which allows real-time visualization of pending visits, contractors, transports and raw materials. In addition, the platform generates automated reports in formats such as Excel or PDF, eliminating dependence on external tools such as spreadsheets. The workspace facilitates the registration of entries even when the security manager is not available, optimizing operational processes and reducing waiting times.

"Now, carriers do not need to carry physical documentation, and authorizations are managed digitally, reducing waiting times," says Velázquez.

The implementation of App Engine has also eliminated the need for manual processes and paper, reducing errors and improving the traceability of operations. The management of carriers and raw materials has been improved, avoiding production delays and optimizing workflow.

The platform is used in 50 plants in Mexico and many others in Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, and Peru. Grupo Bimbo plans to expand App Engine to all its plants in Mexico and Brazil within one month. In three months, it will completely migrate to SCAP version 2.0, integrating all current functionalities and improving operational efficiency.

In the long term, the company seeks to incorporate AI and chatbots to streamline processes such as the supervisor logbook and incident reporting by salespeople. "We want technology to not only optimize our processes, but also improve the experience of our collaborators and partners," says Velázquez.
