Mexico's Minister of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo, and China's Minister of Education, Huai Jinpeng, signed a higher education cooperation agreement focused on the exchange of teachers, researchers, and students in key areas such as science, technology, and innovation. The agreement, with an initial term of five years, seeks to strengthen educational ties between the two nations.

"This agreement will lay the groundwork for innovative initiatives that will have a positive impact on the academic communities of Mexico and China," said Carrillo during the signing of the agreement. He added that the collaboration will benefit institutions, students, and academics, giving them the opportunity to participate in exchange programs and obtain specialized training.

The agreement is part of the Mexican government's efforts to strengthen higher education and promote international cooperation. President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration, says Delgado, is committed to creating 330,000 new spaces in public universities during the next six-year term.

The Chinese government has been a key player in promoting global academic cooperation, with initiatives that include student mobility and knowledge exchange in high-demand areas such as science and technology, says Delgado.

Through this agreement, both countries seek to collaborate in the training of talent that can contribute to the development of strategic sectors, such as engineering and mathematics, key areas for technological advancement and innovation.

Details of the Agreement

The agreement, reads a press release by the Federal Government, focuses on academic mobility, allowing the exchange of students and teachers, as well as the collaboration in joint research projects.

The agreement also creates a cooperation mechanism for the development of teacher training programs, which will allow both countries to share good educational practices and adapt their systems to the needs of future students.

This agreement also opens the door for Mexico and China to participate in joint academic projects and events related to higher education. Joint research projects in advanced technological areas will be a key area of collaboration, with the intention of fostering the development of innovative solutions that can have an impact on both countries' national education systems and economic sectors.

This agreement strengthens diplomatic relations between Mexico and China, which are already consolidated through previous ones such as the Cultural Exchange Agreement signed in 1978 and the Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Certificates of Studies and Academic Degrees of 2010. The recent meeting between the presidents of Mexico and China within the framework of the G20 has also reinforced the commitment of both countries to continue strengthening ties in various areas, including education.
