Mexico is a Force for Digital, AI Transformation: TCS
STORY INLINE POST
Q: How has the position and vision of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) evolved since its arrival in the Mexican market?
A: Since establishing operations in Mexico in 2003, TCS has been committed to empowering local enterprises to compete globally. Our initial objective was to leverage our global expertise — spanning industries like banking, manufacturing, retail, and healthcare — to support Mexican and Latin American companies in their business and digital transformations.
Mexico quickly became a cornerstone of our strategy for two primary reasons. First, we serve the domestic market by equipping local companies with world-class technological capabilities. Second, Mexico has been pivotal as a nearshoring hub given its strategic proximity to the United States, and its geographical, cultural, and time zone advantages. This has enabled us to export services to our North American clients. Access to top-tier universities and a strong English-speaking talent pool further solidifies Mexico’s importance, allowing us to offer the best of nearshoring services while fostering local growth.
Q: What industries have shown increased adoption of your platform in the last year and what challenges are you helping them overcome?
A: We help clients in their digital transformation, encompassing cloud, data, analytics, and AI, which are now fundamental across all industries. In Mexico, we see sustained demand from banking and financial services, manufacturing, retail, consumer goods, life sciences, healthcare, and media sectors. Rather than targeting specific verticals, we support end-to-end transformation journeys, enabling organizations to reimagine their operations, business models, and customer experiences through data-driven and AI-enabled solutions.
Q: Which case studies in Mexico showcase the impact of TCS in increasing operational efficiency, reducing costs, or facilitating technological innovation?
A: We are actively partnering with clients across various sectors in Mexico to drive significant transformations. For example, we have been revolutionizing CEMEX’s global HR from recruitment to retirement. For several major banks, we are heavily involved in enhancing customer experience through the adoption of Generative AI. We have also established cybersecurity threat management centers for some clients in Mexico, providing real-time monitoring and strategic defense against external threats.
Q: Which of your services are in higher demand by Mexican clients?
A: Given that data is foundational to AI and Generative AI, our data strategy services are in high demand. We focus on ensuring the provision of high-quality data that clients can leverage for advanced analytics and AI model training. Sustainability is another key area. We assist companies in scientifically measuring their advances toward sustainability milestones and accelerating their journey to carbon neutrality or zero emissions. Our core offerings in high demand revolve around AI, data, cloud, cybersecurity, sustainability, and enterprise services like SAP, Oracle, and Salesforce solutions.
Q: How does TCS approach technology integration in companies that still operate with legacy architectures?
A: We build long-term, strategic partnerships with clients, many of which span decades. This allows us to gain deep contextual knowledge of their systems, challenges, and transformation priorities. Rather than applying generic solutions, we tailor our integration strategies to each client’s pace and maturity level. Our approach includes advising on cloud migration, AI deployment, and data governance. This level of personalization significantly differentiates us from competitors offering standardized approaches.
Q: How does TCS ensure the protection of critical data when operating nearshore delivery centers for regulated customers?
A: We operate with extremely robust systems and processes to safeguard both TCS data and our customers' data, a commitment driven not just by compliance requirements but by a fundamental responsibility. While client data often remains within their own infrastructure, we enforce stringent protocols during our engagements. Internally, our data and platforms are secured through a comprehensive cybersecurity framework aligned with global standards like General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Our global threat management centers, which operate 24/7 in Mexico, the United States, the European Union, and the Asia-Pacific, are tightly integrated to provide real-time detection, response, and threat neutralization, ensuring uninterrupted and secure services.
Q: How AI can benefit organizations in Mexico and what challenges must organizations overcome to successfully implement it?
A: Users must view AI and Generative AI not merely as technologies but as enablers of business outcomes. The first step is to understand their potential benefits by identifying problem statements that AI can solve, and then visualizing how these tools can expedite the journey toward greater automation and speed. Data is the absolute foundation. Therefore, a critical challenge is to establish a robust data strategy that ensures models are trained on the right information to deliver quality insights and predictions.
TCS is committed to ensuring that its over 600,000 employees globally, including over 12,000 in Mexico, become champions in Generative AI. Our internal expertise allows us to educate clients on how they can transform their businesses. We believe AI adoption is not a race but a journey tailored to each organization's unique challenges and strategy, and our role is to educate and empower clients in this rapidly evolving field.
Q: What role does Mexican talent play within TCS’s expansion strategy?
A: Mexico has world-class talent. Hundreds of our Mexican associates are working in international assignments in the United States, European Union, and South America, reflecting our global mindset and culture. These skilled professionals, combined with our robust training processes, enable us to meet the evolving demands of the technology landscape.
Our priority is to keep our 12,000 people in Mexico, and all our global employees, one step ahead. To confidently guide our clients, we must first be experts ourselves. We cultivate a mindset of continuous learning, recognizing that skills acquired now may become obsolete within 12 to 24 months. We foster this through initiatives that encourage ongoing skill updates throughout an employee's entire lifecycle. We also have strong relationships with top universities in Mexico, recruiting high-potential engineering talent whom we then train on the latest skills and deploy on global projects.
Q: What are the strategic objectives of TCS in Mexico for 2025 and early 2026?
A: We have set an ambitious goal to essentially double our operations in Mexico over the next two years, aiming to replicate in this short timeframe the growth we achieved over the past 20 years. This objective is fueled by the significant demand we see from our customers and the trust they place in our ability to deliver. To achieve this goal, we are acquiring the best talent from universities and the market, continuously training them and expanding our infrastructure, including our global delivery centers.
We are expanding our facilities in Mexico City and recently expanded the ones in Monterrey. Our facilities in Guadalajara and Queretaro continue to be among our largest operational sites. Our strategy also involves strengthening relationships with universities, media, and government entities at federal, state, and municipal levels to ensure the right brand positioning.
