Puebla Unveils Mexico’s First Scientific-Technological Park
Puebla is introducing a series of high-impact technology projects aiming to position itself as a key center for Mexico's technological development and sovereignty, focusing on the San Jose Chiapa region. These developments include the opening of a one-of-a-kind industrial park.
“Puebla becomes the first scientific-technological park in the country, where industry and academia work together to build a future based on innovation,” says José Antonio Silva, Director, Capital of Technology and Sustainability of Puebla. “This project represents a national milestone that aligns with the 15 technological projects promoted by President Sheinbaum, which will attract investment, employment, and regional economic reactivation.”
The technology development plan is centered in the municipality of San Jose Chiapa. This area has a consolidated infrastructure base that includes five industrial parks and strategic connectivity. The presence of the Audi Mexico plant in the region has served as an investment anchor, fostering the creation of highly specialized jobs and enhancing the local educational offerings to develop a skilled workforce.
The projects' viability depends on close cooperation between government levels. Alejandro Armenta, Governor of Puebla, presented the project portfolio, emphasizing federal support. The state's plan is set within the context of a larger national technology agenda driven by the federal government. Puebla's new technology hub is positioned to directly integrate with and support established national initiatives like the Kutsari National Semiconductor Design Center and the Olinia Electric Vehicle Development.
To encourage private investment, a framework of federal and state tax incentives has been implemented to position Puebla as a competitive destination for key sectors such as agribusiness, aerospace, automotive, pharmaceuticals, and energy. The execution of these projects is expected to strengthen the local economy and contribute significantly to the national technology agenda
