Mexican and Turkish business associations signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral exchanges, aiming to build on a balanced trade relationship. The associations highlighted the need to explore new sectors for cooperation by leveraging the complementarity between their economies.

During the Business Program of the Türkiye-Mexico Trade Delegation, organized by the Türkiye Exporters Assembly (TIM) and the Turkish Embassy in Mexico City, the Mexican Business Council (COMCE) and the Mexican Association of Importers and Exporters (ANIERM) signed MoUs with TIM.

The signing of these agreements comes as total bilateral trade stood at over US$2.4 billion in 2024. According to the Ministry of Economy, Mexican exports to Türkiye totaled US$438 million, while imports from Türkiye reached US$2.09 billion, resulting in a trade deficit for Mexico of US$1.65 billion. During his intervention, José Tajonar, Director, ANIERNM, noted that the aerospace, agroindustrial, and electronics industries are sectors with potential for strategic expansion for Mexican exporters. “We must transition from these solid exchanges to a true integration of our value chains, where Mexico consolidates itself not only as a key market, but as a strategic platform to position Turkish products in the North American market,” he added.

Sergio Contreras, Executive President, COMCE, noted that the 100% growth in trade between Mexico and Türkiye over the past decade has led to important advancements, including renewed interest in negotiating a free trade agreement. He stated that the newly signed MoU represents a tangible commitment from COMCE to actively facilitate future exchanges and will translate into benefits for both countries. "Today, Mexico and Türkiye are in similar positions, as both seek to open up to the world as modern economies committed to sustainable development," he stressed.

Rosa Elena García, Treasurer, Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services, and Tourism (CONCANACO SERVYTUR), noted that every transaction, alliance, and investment is a bet for stability and shared development. She admitted that both countries have a vibrant trade history, a resilient industry, and an adaptable business community. "But we also share challenges such as the need to facilitate access to financing, reduce operational barriers, and create the conditions for SMEs to participate in international trade,” she pointed out, stressing the importance of the creation of opportunities for young and female entrepreneurs to participate in these dynamics.

Türkiye’s Ambassador to Mexico, Murat Salim Esenli, noted that Mexico is Türkiye’s second-largest trade partner in Latin America and the top Latin American exporter to Türkiye. He attributed this strong relationship to shared qualities, such as both nations having a demographic bonus and innovation-oriented societies. As a result of this shared vision, Ambassador Esenli noted that both countries elevated their bilateral relations to a "strategic partnership" in 2013.

Ambassador Esenli said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan set a goal to increase bilateral trade with Mexico to US$5 billion. He noted that his government considers this goal "close to being achieved," as the Embassy has been actively promoting exchanges by supporting Turkish companies at various expos and events across the country. Ambassador Esenli also invited Mexican businesspeople to participate in forums in Türkiye to continue creating opportunities for both parties. "Ultimately, you (the business community) are the backbone of the trade between our nations. We, as official institutions, work to smooth the path and facilitate your activities in this regard,” Ambassador Esenli concluded.
