Continental Opens Second Plant in Aguascalientes
Continental has inaugurated its second manufacturing plant in Aguascalientes with a US$90 million investment to produce hydraulic hoses made of rubber and steel for industrial applications. The project expects to employ 200 people and could expand to 500, strengthening the German company’s footprint in the state and reinforcing its confidence in local talent.
The new facility, operated by ContiTech México, Continental’s industrial solutions division, is located in the Vesta Industrial Park in southern Aguascalientes. The plant was completed in just 12 months and features state-of-the-art machinery and a specialized laboratory, enabling the company to double its production capacity to meet growing market demand.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Governor Tere Jiménez, accompanied by Jorge Andrade, Deputy Minister of Investment and Development, and Continental executives Philip Nelles, CEO, ContiTech; Andreas Gerstenberger, Head of Industrial Solutions; Mathias Reinsberg, Global CFO; Eduardo Barros, Plant Director in Aguascalientes; and Ryan Gocher, Project Director.
Governor Jiménez highlighted that Aguascalientes continues moving forward without pause. “We have understood the global environment intelligently and acted strategically.” She emphasized that the state provides security, certainty and a pro-business government. Germany, she added, remains Aguascalientes’ top European trading partner and one of its three largest foreign investors, with more than US$1.4 billion invested between 1999 and 2025. Currently, 17 German companies are currently operating in the state.
During the event, Nelles thanked the state government for its support. “This new plant strengthens our operations in the Americas and enhances our capacity to serve customers throughout Mexico. It will play a key role in our future growth.”
Gerstenberger noted that the project reflects Continental’s long-term vision for the region. “The new facility not only increases production, but also lays the foundation for future product lines and an industrial campus in Aguascalientes.”
Continental already operates an automotive electronics plant in Aguascalientes, established in 2021. The company cited the state’s skilled labor force, investment security and proven industrial environment as decisive factors in launching the new “greenfield” project smoothly.
The expansion adds to the growing influx of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Aguascalientes. German FDI now totals US$1.1 billion, making Germany the third-largest investor in the state.
