As France and Mexico approach 200 years of diplomatic relations, both nations are looking to strengthen their strategic alliance and broaden collaboration in economic, cultural, and political arenas. French President Emmanuel Macron is anticipated to visit Mexico officially in November to advance this agenda.

At the recent France National Day event, French Ambassador to Mexico Delphine Borione and Mexico’s Deputy Foreign Minister María Teresa Mercado highlighted ongoing cooperation across various fields and emphasized that high-level engagements will continue to reinforce the bilateral relationship.

Ambassador Borione pointed to the robust economic ties between the countries, noting that more than 700 French firms operate within Mexico. She identified key sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and aerospace as areas with key exchanges. Borione also expressed optimism that the Mexico Plan will encourage further investment.

“The friendship between Mexico and France has grown over time through shared cultures, values, and commitments. Both nations have journeyed together defending liberty, peace, humanism, diversity, and today more than ever, multilateralism and respect for international law,” Borione remarked.

Looking ahead, the ambassador announced that 2026 will feature a series of bilateral visits, including some at the highest levels. She also emphasized that the forthcoming update of the Global Agreement between Mexico and the European Union offers an opportunity to deepen cooperation.

In addressing current global crises, Borione stressed that France, Europe, and Mexico remain united by core principles including humanism, progress, solidarity, human rights, and a feminist approach to foreign policy. She affirmed that respect for international law and multilateralism is the essential response to global challenges and threats to peace.
