Mexico welcomed more than 18.3 million foreign tourists arriving by air between January and November 2025, driven by strong demand from the United States and Canada and a growing diversification of international source markets. Data from the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) showed that arrivals increased by 76,000 visitors compared with the same period in 2024 and rose 10.7% from 2019 levels, before the COVID-19 pandemic. The figures are based on records from the Migration Policy Unit of the Ministry of the Interior.

Traditional markets continued to dominate international air travel to Mexico. The United States remained the largest source of visitors, with 12.24 million arrivals, an increase of 23,000 travelers from 2024 and a 26.8% rise compared with pre-pandemic levels.

Minister of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez said Canada ranked second, with 2.4 million arrivals, representing an increase of 248,000 tourists year over year and a 20.5% gain compared with 2019. The United Kingdom placed third, contributing 407,728 visitors, reflecting annual growth of 3.9%.

Beyond North America and Europe, SECTUR highlighted notable growth from other international markets. Arrivals from Italy, Argentina, Panama, China, and South Korea increased during the first 11 months of the year, signaling a broader diversification of countries choosing Mexico as a travel destination. Officials said this trend strengthens Mexico’s global tourism presence and reduces reliance on a limited number of source markets.

Travelers aged 30 to 44 accounted for the largest share of international air arrivals, representing 29.3% of the total. Visitors between 45 and 59 years old followed with 24%, while travelers aged 16 to 29 represented 18.1%. Tourists aged 60 and older accounted for 17.1% of arrivals, while children and adolescents aged 0 to 15 represented 11.4%.

Positive Outlook for 2026

Rodríguez said the performance of international air arrivals confirms that 2025 will close as a strong year for Mexico’s tourism industry, reinforcing positive expectations for 2026, which is expected to be a key period for sector growth.

Strong air connectivity and continued market diversification, officials said, continue to position Mexico as one of the world’s most attractive global travel destinations.

Tourism Grows 5.8%

Last month, Rodríguez presented positive performance for the tourism sector in 2025, highlighting sustained growth in visitor numbers, investment, and employment. She reported that between January and October, Mexico received 38.4 million international tourists, a 5.8% increase compared to 2024, while domestic tourism rose by 3.3% to reach 92.6 million travelers, reported MBN.

Rodríguez detailed that the United States remains the primary source market, accounting for 67.3% of visitors, followed by significant growth from Canada with 11.4%, Italy with 14.8%, China with 10.6%, and Korea with 11%. She emphasized that this growth is not limited to beach destinations but is also driven by cultural and recreational experiences across various states.
