Modi, Sheinbaum Strengthen India-Mexico Ties at G7 Summit

At the G7 Summit in Canada, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held his first official bilateral meeting with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. Modi congratulated Sheinbaum on her historic election as Mexico’s first female president and expressed appreciation for Mexico’s consistent support in India’s global fight against terrorism.
The meeting marked a new chapter in India–Mexico relations, paving the way for deeper collaboration across multiple sectors. Prime Minister Modi extended a formal invitation to President Sheinbaum to visit India, emphasizing the opportunity to elevate diplomatic and economic ties.
Both leaders expressed a shared commitment to advancing cooperation in strategic and high-impact areas. President Sheinbaum commended India’s global leadership in technology and digital public infrastructure, expressing strong interest in forging partnerships in those domains. Discussions also explored future collaboration in critical sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and critical minerals, identified as pivotal to national development and economic security.
The leaders acknowledged the growing engagement between think tanks in both countries and emphasized the importance of people-to-people ties. Cultural exchange and tourism were highlighted as key avenues to deepen mutual understanding and connection.
Their meeting reaffirmed a joint commitment to democratic values, innovation, and inclusive growth, laying the foundation for a future-oriented bilateral agenda.
