The Green Incentives 2025 program strengthened the competitiveness of Puebla’s productive sector by channeling more than MX$14.5 million into the adoption of solar energy by 44 MSMEs across the state. Operated by the Puebla State Energy Agency under the state government, the initiative focused on reducing energy costs and accelerating the transition to clean power as a driver of business productivity and sustainability.

Launched during the administration of Governor Alejandro Armenta, the program provided subsidies covering up to 40% of each project’s value, capped at MX$200,000 per company. The incentive structure helped speed up the installation of photovoltaic systems across businesses from a range of economic sectors, prioritizing operational efficiency and long-term cost stability.

Green Incentives 2025 generated a public investment of MX$4.16 million and leveraged MX$10.41 million in private capital, underscoring the multiplier effect of public spending aimed at energy transition initiatives. The co-investment model reinforced business confidence while expanding the program’s reach without straining public finances.

The program resulted in the installation of 1,224 photovoltaic modules, equivalent to an installed capacity of 728.33kWp. This capacity directly contributes to lower consumption of conventional electricity and greater cost predictability for participating companies, improving productivity and resilience amid energy price volatility.

Beyond its immediate impact, the program positioned itself as a business tool that integrates economic development, renewable energy and environmental sustainability, states the government. For MSMEs, adopting distributed solar generation strengthens their competitive standing while aligning operations with environmental standards increasingly demanded by customers and global supply chains.

With these results, Green Incentives outlines a path toward expanding clean electrification across Puebla’s productive sector, generating structural energy savings and laying the groundwork for future calls that deepen the state’s business-focused energy transition.

Mexico´s Power Sector Pivots Toward Solar Energy

MBN reported that Mexico is accelerating its push into solar energy, with installed photovoltaic capacity projected to more than triple to 37.8GW by 2035, while wind power also expands and natural gas remains the backbone of system reliability, according to GlobalData and Ember. GlobalData estimates solar capacity will grow at a compound annual growth rate of about 10.7% between 2024 and 2035, supported by Mexico’s strong solar resource base, continued utility-scale project development and rapid growth in distributed generation.

The findings are detailed in GlobalData’s report, Mexico Power Market Trends and Analysis by Capacity, Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Regulations, Key Players and Forecast to 2035. The report notes that national planning frameworks prioritize long-term capacity additions to meet rising electricity demand from industry, manufacturing and expanding urban centers.

Moreover, an analysis by energy experts at Ember indicates that the country’s climatic conditions could allow solar energy to supply close to 90% of national electricity demand. According to the report, solar accounted for only 6.6% of Mexico’s electricity generation in 2023. By 2030, however, this source would be key to reaching a 45% share of clean electricity, representing about one-fifth of total power generation. Reaching that target would require accelerating solar deployment to about 36GW plus 30GWh of battery storage by 2030.
