The state government of Veracruz and Mexico’s Ministry of Economy signed a cooperation agreement to develop a 230-hectare Polo de Desarrollo Económico para el Bienestar (Economic Development Hub for Well-Being) in Tuxpan, aimed at becoming a strategic logistics and agroindustrial center in northeastern Mexico.

With this initiative, Tuxpan aims to position itself as a strategic logistics and agroindustrial node in the Gulf of Mexico, enhancing Mexico’s role in global supply chains.

Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle said the project represents “the beginning of a new industrial stage” for northern Veracruz, stressing that coordination between state and federal authorities will help drive investment and job creation. The governor invited both domestic and foreign investors to participate, promising favorable conditions and institutional support.

“This event represents much more than an administrative act,” Nahle said. “It marks the start of a new industrial era where the main engine will be regional growth.”

Vidal Llerenas, undersecretary of Industry and Trade at the Ministry of Economy, said the initiative is part of a broader effort to boost lagging industrial regions by leveraging existing infrastructure.

“This hub has energy, water and the full infrastructure of a city like Tuxpan,” Llerenas said. “It also has access to natural gas, a key resource for industrial development.”

The project will span more than 230 hectares with connectivity via highways, railways, cabotage and port access. Its focus sectors include petrochemicals, agribusiness, logistics, electronics, chemicals and energy. Officials said its purpose is to bring in national and international investment while generating competitive jobs while revitalizing the regional economy.

The agreement was signed at the facilities of the Veracruz National Port System Administration (ASIPONA) with the participation of members from the private sector, mayors, legislators and public officials. The initiative is part of the federal Plan México, which seeks to decentralize industrial hubs and strengthen regional economic development.
