The Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) experienced a 81.7% surge in domestic passenger traffic in the first quarter of 2024, according to data provided by the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC). During this period, AIFA moved 944,000 people, an increase compared to the same period last year when 519,600 passengers used the airport facilities.

AIFA now ranks as the sixth most relevant airport in domestic passenger traffic nationwide. The most popular route from AIFA connects with Cancun, registering a 59.2% increase in demand, with 229,000 quarterly passengers.

While AIFA has shown growth in domestic traffic, its performance in the international arena is still maturing. During the first quarter of 2024, the airport transported 58,610 international passengers, placing it below the country's primary international terminals.

According to AFAC data, AIFA has become the main air cargo terminal nationwide. In the first three months of 2024, a total of 103,932 tons of goods were transported through the airport facilities in Santa Lucia. Last year, a presidential decree moved cargo operations from Mexico City International Airport to AIFA.

The College of Civil Engineers of Mexico (CICM) has expressed interest in meeting with presidential candidates and the Head of Government of Mexico City to discuss proposals related to the country's infrastructure. Mauricio Jessurun Solomou, president of the board of directors, CICM, tressed the importance of the involvement of all sectors in the development of national infrastructure, irrespective of their political affiliations.
