Boeing has submitted a "best and final" offer to more than 32,000 workers currently on strike, but the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has opted not to present it for a vote, according to Reuters.

This proposal, made on Sep. 23, includes a 30% pay increase over four years, the reinstatement of a performance bonus, and enhancements to retirement benefits. However, union leaders believe the offer does not adequately address the essential issues raised by their members.

Since the strike commenced on Sep. 13, Boeing has faced mounting pressure, with the work stoppage potentially costing the company billions and impacting its financial stability. Jon Holden, president, IAM District 751, stated, "Logistically we don't have the ability to set up a vote for 33,000 people in a few days." He pointed out that the proposal falls short of the workers' expectations regarding retirement and wage increases.

Holden also mentioned that the union plans to survey its members to gather feedback on Boeing's latest offer. "We may consider a vote in the future, but we hope to engage in discussions to better address our members' needs," he added.

In response, Boeing asserted that its offer reflects significant improvements and incorporates employee feedback. "We first presented the offer to the union and then transparently shared the details with employees," the company noted.
