The Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (FEMIA) and Brazil’s Association of Defense and Security Material Industries (Abimde) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in April during the Mexican Aerospace Fair (FAMEX) to enhance cooperation in the aerospace and defense sectors.

During a FEMIA-hosted webinar on Wednesday, Antonio José Ribeiro, Director,  Abimde, stated, “We [Brazil and Mexico] are undoubtedly the two strongest economies in Latin America. We can combine forces, and this sum won’t be one plus one equals two—it will be three or four. We can multiply, not just add.”

The agreement focuses on joint development, co-production, and supplier integration to bolster regional capabilities and expand global reach. As the guest of honor at FAMEX, Brazil showcased offerings from 12 companies, while Abimde represents over 200 firms.

The collaboration will advance on a project-by-project basis, with both sides identifying areas of mutual interest and connecting relevant companies. Ribeiro and FEMIA CEO Luis Lizcano emphasized the importance of urgency while noting that setting fixed timelines for milestones would be impractical.

A follow-up presentation by FEMIA to Brazilian stakeholders is planned as the next step in solidifying the partnership.
