Viva Adds AIFA Flights to Cartagena and Medellin in 2026
Viva announced two new international routes that will connect the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) with Cartagena and Medellin starting in June 2026. The airline said the expansion supports AIFA’s goal of increasing international service and strengthening travel and commercial ties between Mexico and Colombia, currently the third-largest source of visitors to Mexico.
The new Cartagena route will launch on June 4, 2026, operating three weekly frequencies on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Service to Medellin will begin on June 5, 2026, with four weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Tickets are available through the airline’s digital platforms and official sales channels.
“We are boosting the international connectivity of our airport, as well as the tourism and commerce that will provide new opportunities for thousands of Mexicans through these services. The airport continues working to consolidate Felipe Ángeles International Airport as a new connectivity hub in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area through more routes and improved service,” said Isidoro Pastor, Director General, AIFA.
The two new Colombian destinations complement Viva’s existing service from AIFA to Bogota. The airline began operations in Colombia in 2021 with flights from Mexico City and Cancun to the capital. Additional routes from Guadalajara launched in 2022 and from Monterrey in 2023. Viva reported that more than 1 million passengers have traveled between the two countries through its four Bogotá-connected routes.
Viva described the new routes as an expansion aligned with mobility flows between both markets. ProColombia President Carmen Caballero said the company’s decision reflects a growing travel relationship. “The opening of these new routes shows the dynamism of the relationship between Mexico and Colombia and strengthens connectivity that is essential to drive tourism and business between our nations,” she said.
Viva added that the AIFA expansion will also improve access for Colombian travelers to Mexico’s domestic network. Javier Suárez, the airline’s Executive Vice President of Strategy, Alliances and Planning, emphasized the dual-market impact. “We are not only connecting Mexican customers with two new destinations of strong tourist appeal, we are also opening the door for thousands of Colombian tourists to visit and experience Mexico City and up to 30 domestic destinations we serve from AIFA,” he said.
