Viva Expands US Connectivity Ahead of 2026 World Cup
Viva announced two new international routes from Mexico City’s Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Ángeles (AIFA) to Austin, Texas, and New York City, as part of its strategy to expand US connectivity ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Austin route will launch on Nov. 20, 2025, with three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The New York route will operate temporarily from Dec. 12, 2025, to Jan. 11, 2026, with flights on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and will resume permanently in early June 2026 to accommodate World Cup travelers.
“Ciudad de México - AIFA is a key part of our expansion toward the United States, becoming an important hub for international connectivity. These announcements come just in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. We are preparing to connect Mexicans with various World Cup venues and to welcome international tourists,” said Juan Zuazua, CEO, Viva.
These routes complement seven other US services announced in April 2025, connecting AIFA to Los Angeles, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, Miami, and Orlando. By the end of 2025, Viva will operate 42 routes from AIFA—11 international and 31 domestic—up from 29 routes in 2024.
“Thanks to the efforts of airlines like Viva, our staff, location, and first-class infrastructure, we are consolidating AIFA as the best option for flying in the Mexico City area,” stated General Isidoro Pastor, director general, AIFA.
Javier Suárez, Viva’s executive vice president of strategy and planning, emphasized the airline’s commitment to building AIFA as a connectivity hub. “By year-end, we will fly directly to 42 destinations, offering passengers modern aircraft, flexible travel options, and the benefits of Doters, Mexico’s most generous loyalty program,” he said.
Viva also announced two new domestic routes from AIFA to Veracruz and Saltillo, Coahuila, starting in November 2025. Currently, Aeroméxico is the only other airline operating US flights from AIFA, serving Houston and McAllen.
