Drought Levels Drop 7.68% in September: CONAGUA

September rains have boosted water levels across the country. However, challenges remain in some regions. Meanwhile, Tetra Pak's latest report reveals a 20% reduction in GHG emissions across its value chain.

CONAGUA Reports Higher Water Levels 

In September, rainfall reduced drought levels nationwide, with 57.32% of the country now being drought-free. Despite this, some regions like Sonora remain critically low in water reserves, while excessive rainfall has caused flooding that damaged crops, particularly in the State of Mexico. Reservoirs, such as the Cutzamala System and those in Puebla, Tlaxcala and Nuevo Leon have seen significant recovery, and concerns persist about potential overflows. 

Tetra Pak Advances Sustainability With Emissions Reduction

Tetra Pak’s 25th Sustainability Report highlights significant progress in its environmental efforts, including a 20% reduction in GHG emissions across its value chain and a 47% reduction from its operations since 2019. The company also achieved a 9.6% increase in packaging recycling through its Allies in Recycling initiative and invested US$110.46 million to develop more sustainable packaging solutions. Recognized on the CDP Forests A List for environmental leadership, Tetra Pak continues to expand its recycling infrastructure and social impact projects, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050.

Mexico Introduces New Plates for Electric Vehicles

State of Mexico Promotes Tire Recycling to Reduce Waste

The State of Mexico’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (SMAyDS) highlighted the importance of recycling discarded tires to combat environmental and public health issues. With 70% of tires being recyclable and their reuse in products like asphalt and athletic tracks, effective recycling can significantly reduce waste, save resources, and cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Grupo Bimbo ranked sixth in the 2024 Sustainability Leaders Survey for Latin America, marking its first appearance on the list. This recognition underscores the company's dedication to its sustainability strategy and its significant positive impact. Conducted by The GlobeScan/ERM Sustainability Institute, the survey highlights the pressing need for climate action and supportive laws while noting increasing resistance to the ESG agenda.
