In a significant step towards environmental sustainability, the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SICT) unveiled new identification plates for electric vehicles. This initiative, announced by Rogelio Jiménez, Deputy Minister, SICT, marks a critical move in Mexico's commitment to reducing its environmental impact.

During the initiative’s announcement event, Jiménez, accompanied by Laura Nohémi Muñoz, Director General, Federal Transport, and Lorena Martínez, Director General, BY Delectrico, emphasized the importance of transitioning to electric vehicles.  Muñoz highlighted the progress made in electrifying transportation and stressed the need for continued efforts towards decarbonization and reducing emissions from federal transport vehicles. She also noted that addressing climate change requires the automotive industry to meet mobility needs sustainably, safely and without harmful emissions.

Martínez praised the new metal plates as a transformative step for federal transport. He underscored that their implementation is expected to boost the adoption of electric vehicles among users, as they offer benefits such as exemptions from emission certificate requirements. “This measure facilitates the transition to more sustainable mobility, positioning Mexico at the forefront of eco-friendly transport,” he said.
