Mexico, Brazil Forge New Agricultural Projects
The Mexican Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER), through INIFAP and SENASIC, is set to launch new technical and scientific cooperation projects with Brazil. These initiatives are part of the Dual Year Mexico-Brazil 2024 celebrations, commemorating 190 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
From June 12 to 14, the VIII Mexico-Brazil Working Group Meeting took place in Mexico City. The event was coordinated by Mexico’s International Cooperation Agency for Development (AMEXCID) and Brazil’s Agency for Cooperation (ABC). During the meeting, two projects were approved. The first focuses on the production of biofuels from castor oil plants, led by INIFAP. Meanwhile, the second one addresses pest control, particularly targeting the fruit fly, under SENASICA’s guidance.
The meeting also established plans for ongoing bilateral work on various topics of mutual interest, including sugarcane, sesame, and agave. Additionally, both sides aim to sign an agreement for genetic material exchange and a memorandum of understanding for technical and scientific cooperation. These collaborative projects are expected to commence in the last quarter of the year, reinforcing the commitment of both nations to enhancing institutional capabilities in the agricultural sector.
