Zacatecas Highlights Bean Crop Advances
Zacatecas has reported progress in agricultural production and social support programs, with the price of beans currently set at MX$27/kg, according to Governor David Monreal.
During President Claudia Sheinbaum’s visit to the state for Monreal’s first government report, both leaders underscored the importance of supporting local farmers and strengthening social welfare policies. Moreover, Monreal emphasized the government’s efforts to improve rural production and provide resources to small producers.
The state government has increased support for bean farmers through subsidies and expanded market access. Sheinbaum highlighted that more than 195,000 older adults in Zacatecas now receive pensions and that 13.5 million people nationwide have exited poverty during the previous administration. She also noted that the minimum wage has risen by 135%.
“Our public policy is centered around the poor first, because there cannot be a rich government with poor people,” Sheinbaum said, reaffirming her administration’s focus on social and rural development.
While celebrating progress in agriculture and social programs, Sheinbaum and Monreal acknowledged that further investments are needed to improve infrastructure, healthcare, and local employment opportunities.
