Aguascalientes Auto Industry Faces 30% Worker Turnover
The automotive industry in Aguascalientes faces a consistent worker turnover rate of approximately 30%, according to David Morán, municipal Minister of Social Economy and Tourism. This figure has remained stable over recent years and is largely attributed to the considerable distance between employees’ residences and manufacturing plants.
“We have about a 30% turnover rate. Hiring continues daily across the sector, but so do departures,” Morán stated.
He identified lengthy commutes and transportation difficulties as primary factors. “Many workers travel across the city to reach automotive facilities; delays and fatigue often lead to resignations,” he explained.
Typically, employees remain in their roles for around six months before moving on. To tackle this challenge, the municipality evaluates candidates’ home locations during recruitment. “We ask job seekers how they will commute, what transportation options they have, and whether their earnings will cover living expenses after travel costs. We are conducting a labor market analysis focused on workers’ needs,” Morán said.
Additionally, training programs are customized based on company requirements. “We collaborate with businesses to define desired profiles and tailor training accordingly, ensuring a better fit for open positions,” he added.
To reduce turnover, authorities are exploring ways to better align job sites with workers’ homes. Prospective employees are advised to carefully consider transportation logistics before accepting offers. “Location is a key factor we emphasize during recruitment as we seek to understand and address reasons for employee attrition,” Morán concluded.
