During the 2025 General Assembly of the Metropolitan Automotive Cluster (ClautMet), Alexander Firsching, CEO, Bosch Mexico, was appointed President of the Manufacturing Committee. He succeeds Ramiro Escobedo, General Director, JSP Mexico, who held the position for four years.

This leadership transition aligns with ClautMet’s strategic goals to strengthen the automotive industry in the Valley of Mexico Metropolitan Area. The cluster, comprising 160 companies ranging from Tier 1 to Tier 4 suppliers, has prioritized international partnerships, workforce development, and increased digitization of production processes.

Firsching, an economist with a background in corporate law and 38 years of experience at Bosch, outlined the committee’s priorities under his leadership. In his address, he emphasized the importance of collaboration among industry stakeholders.

“We must work on the transformation together. The challenge is that progress is slower than expected; electric vehicles in Mexico are growing gradually, but hybrid vehicles are seeing increased adoption,” Firsching said.

He also underscored the rising significance of digital solutions and production automation to meet evolving global manufacturing standards. “Labor is often cited as Mexico’s advantage, but it is the skilled and qualified workforce that makes the difference. The future, however, is not solely about labor—it is about production lines and digitalization, like Siemens’ work with advanced technology solutions,” he noted.

A recurring theme in Firsching’s remarks was the need to address the imbalance in the local supplier base. “We have more Tier 1 than Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers. This imbalance must be corrected,” he stated.

The assembly also featured the presentation of the Strategy for Skills Development in the Automotive Industry in the Valley of Mexico Metropolitan Area, a study developed by ClautMet and Horizon Wise with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The study focuses on enhancing the regional workforce through training in electric mobility, automation, and digitalization—key areas for adapting to future supply chain demands.

The event, held at the offices of Mexico’s Ministry of Economy, reflected the cluster’s strong collaboration with federal and local governments. ClautMet acknowledged the ongoing support from the governments of the State of Mexico, Mexico City, and Hidalgo, which continue to champion initiatives to boost the automotive sector’s competitiveness.
