At the crossroads of electric mobility in Mexico, industry leaders recently converged to unravel the challenges and key insights into the production and widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). Clear consensuses on imperatives to shape the future of sustainable mobility in the country are necessary to properly adopt electrification. "Working on these issues is fundamental to guarantee a cleaner and more sustainable future for our country," Filiberto Tamez, COO, Car Fast, emphasized.
The world has already chosen electric vehicles as the way forward, creating a sense of urgency in the adoption of these technologies. Lorenzo Ortego, CEO, Voltway, stated. "Regardless of where we are, we have to do it. The world has already decided that the future belongs to electric vehicles, no matter what."
Standardization and charging compatibility emerged as critical challenges toward adoption, underscoring the importance of safety. Meanwhile, exploring challenges in industrial zones and transmission costs highlighted the need for specific support. Kijana Mack, Executive Director, Mexico Energy Partners, noted, the highest cost is energy transmission. “We have to consider the growth of vehicles in a saturated network," she said.
Irma Velazquez, CEO, Energy and Water Development Corp, highlighted the importance of addressing the different realities of the country in terms of purchasing power, infrastructure, and other key elements needed to ensure the growth of new technologies. "The greatest challenge of any innovation is always the assessment of what the need and conditions are." She advocated for a communication strategy adapted to the diversity of Mexico in its journey toward electric mobility.
At the core of these discussions lies access to charging infrastructure, a critical component according to the participants. "As electric mobility gains ground, it is necessary to ensure access for all users,” said Tamez. Rafael Valdez, Commercial Director Mexico, Central America, and Caribbean, CIRCUTOR, stressed that even robust electrical systems need careful integration into existing infrastructure to avoid stress on charging points and to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.
