Two Pillars to Boost Innovation and Close the AI Talent Gap
STORY INLINE POST
I am impressed to hear and witness the interest that technology leaders and C-Level executives have in adopting innovations to take their businesses, processes, and operations to new levels. This enthusiasm is supported by consultancies such as IDC. According to the analyst firm, 83% of companies in the country already have an AI strategy defined or in progress.
However, there is one challenge I have heard repeatedly: the lack of talent with sufficient background to use and deploy this technology. In this regard, the percentage of companies that identify a talent gap as the main obstacle to adopting artificial intelligence is almost as high (60%) as those that already use it, according to other consultancies.
As a technology partner for companies in Mexico, at Google Cloud, we have a strong commitment supported by two pillars: 1) Having been pioneers in AI for more than a decade, we provide organizations through the cloud with the most advanced technologies that power Google products, trusted by billions worldwide. 2) We reinforce our commitment to prepare 1 million people regarding technology in the coming years. Let me expand on each of these points.
By offering the most advanced AI technologies through our end-to-end stack, Google Cloud is a strategic partner for organizations in Mexico to innovate and deliver business outcomes. By working with us, public and private sector companies gain access to a unified artificial intelligence platform that offers proprietary models as powerful as Gemini, as well as third-party and open-source models. We also provide ready-to-use and deploy tools, such as Vertex AI, which enable companies to build customized applications and agents, along with the supercomputing infrastructure that combines TPUs, optimized software, and a flexible consumption model.
Bringing the greatest innovation to organizations in the country requires having people prepared to leverage the benefits of incorporating artificial intelligence into processes and different business areas.
At Google Cloud, we want to play a key role in training the future workforce to support our business and drive economic growth in the country. That is why we have committed to a diverse set of programs aimed at various groups, both in digital and in-person environments.
Our most recent effort is called "Capacita + AI in Practice with Google Cloud," a training event unprecedented in Latin America that will take place on Dec. 6. The goal of this initiative is to train more than 200,000 students and non-technical professionals in generative AI with Gemini in just one day. The foundation of this project is that participants will explore fundamental concepts and learn to use Gemini in productivity tools such as Google Workspace and NotebookLM. The focus will be on mastering prompt engineering and no-code experiences, so that even people without technical knowledge can create their own AI agents.
We recognize that this effort cannot be carried out without the support of partners who also share the commitment to preparing and developing Mexican talent. Therefore, at Capacita + AI in Practice with Google Cloud, we will host in-person sessions at 50 universities across 10 countries in the region: México, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Peru and Uruguay To broaden the reach, there will also be virtual sessions.
Opening the greatest innovations to Mexican companies and helping prepare individuals with technical skills will enhance the local economic impact of artificial intelligence. IDC highlights that companies using Google Cloud AI are seeing average productivity and performance value of US$205,000 for every 1,000 employees.
In Mexico, companies from diverse industries are already showcasing positive business outcomes from AI adoption. For example, Métrica Móvil modernized its SaaS platforms with Google Cloud’s generative AI to automate real-time alert analysis, classify them, describe their causes, and suggest actions in natural language, reducing the cognitive load of teams. As a result, monitoring teams are no longer overwhelmed by excessive notifications and can focus on what truly requires human intervention.
Another case is Grupo Herdez, a food industry company whose challenge was to optimize operations by transforming its large volumes of data into a strategic advantage. As part of its ongoing relationship with Google Cloud, it adopted advanced cloud capabilities, implementing data analytics and artificial intelligence tools to unify information across its entire value chain and automate key processes. This transformation had a direct business impact, reducing operating and infrastructure costs, increasing market behavior accuracy (+95% precision), deeply optimizing planning (commercial and supply chain) tasks, and achieving stronger consumer connections to reinforce competitiveness.
Considering the innovative spirit that exists in our country, Mexico’s present is full of opportunities that artificial intelligence is already helping unlock. As technology partners, every step we take in the country reinforces our focus on supporting organizations to accelerate their digital capabilities and take their businesses to new levels.
