Aplazo Teams With Conekta to Expand BNPL Payments in Mexico
Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) platform Aplazo announced a strategic partnership with payment processor Conekta to expand digital payment options for e-commerce in Mexico.
The integration will allow thousands of merchants using Conekta to offer Aplazo’s BNPL service directly at checkout, enabling consumers to purchase items and pay in installments without a credit card. Customers can choose between one, three, five, or eight biweekly payments.
“This alliance reinforces our promise to make life easier for merchants, allowing them to activate more payment methods with a single integration,” said Héctor Cárdenas, CEO and co-founder, Conekta. “With Aplazo, our clients will be able to reach new consumer profiles and convert more sales in their e-commerce.”
The companies said the partnership aims to support both merchants and consumers by increasing average transaction values and encouraging repeat purchases. For businesses, BNPL can boost sales by reaching consumers without credit cards, while shoppers benefit from greater flexibility in managing expenses.
Mexico’s e-commerce sector is experiencing rapid growth, with projections indicating that the country’s digital commerce could surpass the United States by 2028, growing at a rate of 19%. Payment diversification has been a key driver, as more consumers adopt digital solutions.
Aplazo and Conekta said the initiative represents a step toward democratizing credit and modernizing digital commerce in Mexico. According to a recent study, about 31% of Mexican consumers already use BNPL as their preferred payment method, with the segment expected to grow at least 30% annually over the next five years.
The rise of BNPL in Mexico is largely driven by younger consumers, particularly those aged 18–24 and 28–40, who face inflationary pressures and seek flexible payment options.
