Walmart Mexico Names Barrientos Pozo CEO After Interim Role
Walmart de México (Walmex) announced the official appointment of Cristián Barrientos Pozo as Executive President and Chief Executive Officer of Walmart Mexico and Central America.
Barrientos brings more than 26 years of experience in retail. He began his career in D&S administration before the company merged with Walmart in Chile, gaining experience across multiple commercial and operations areas.
In 2007, he led the creation of the SuperBodega aCuenta format, establishing it as a key growth model in the market. He joined Walmart Mexico in 2012 as Vice President of Bodega Aurrera Operations and was promoted in 2016 to Senior Vice President, overseeing all three Bodega formats.
In 2018, Barrientos became General Manager of Walmart Central America, leading operations across five countries during a challenging period. He returned to Mexico in 2020 as Director of Operations.
At the beginning of 2023, he assumed the role of CEO of Walmart Chile, where he strengthened the company’s culture and advanced initiatives focused on regeneration, community engagement, and leveraging experiences from other Walmart markets globally.
Barrientos had been serving as interim Executive President and CEO of Walmart Mexico and Central America since early August while continuing his leadership role in Chile. Walmex stated that a successor for the CEO position in Chile will be announced soon.
