CNE Sets New Rules for Self-Consumption Generation Permits
CNE has published the agreement outlining requirements for obtaining electricity generation permits for self-consumption. The new rules apply to plants with a capacity between 0.7 and 20MW and were approved by CNE's Technical Committee on July 23.
The CNE, a new agency under SENER that replaced the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), published the CT/3.SO/3.14-2025 agreement in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF). The CNE's requirements for permit applicants include indicating whether an intermittent plant has its own or contracted support if it injects energy into the National Transmission Network or General Distribution Networks.
Applicants must also provide the business name of each private network user associated with the plant that can receive and use the energy. The CNE requires a general description of the financing plan, business plan, and the start and end dates for construction and operations if the plant has not yet been built.
