The National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energy (INEEL) held a specialized training course for technical staff from the US Embassy in Mexico on grid-connected photovoltaic systems, aiming to strengthen their skills in solar energy design, operation, and maintenance. The three-day in-person program, titled Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Systems: Small-Scale Applications, took place on Sept. 2-4 and was organized by INEEL’s Specialized Training Center for the Energy Sector (CECSE). The sessions were led by Dr. Humberto Jiménez, Senior Researcher in the Alternative Energies Division and head of INEEL’s project to develop a photovoltaic inverter tailored to the Mexican grid.

The training combined theoretical and practical modules, covering topics such as photovoltaic fundamentals, system integration with the national grid, inverter operation, maintenance, and fault detection. Participants analyzed real-world factors that affect system efficiency, including installation angles, shading, and cloud coverage. They also toured INEEL’s photovoltaic facilities and inverter laboratories, observing advanced simulation tools for solar modules and grid dynamics.

The course is expected to enhance the performance of the Embassy’s 500kWp solar installation, which features cutting-edge technology and stringent safety standards. Embassy personnel highlighted the technical value of the program and expressed interest in continuing collaboration with INEEL through future training and advisory services.

Through initiatives like this, INEEL states that it reinforces its role as a key provider of technical expertise and training for both the Mexican energy sector and international partners seeking to strengthen their clean energy capabilities.
