BlackRock CEO Meets Mexican Presidential Candidates
Larry Fink, CEO, BlackRock, engaged in separate meetings with presidential candidates Claudia Sheinbaum and Xóchitl Gálvez a week before the start of electoral campaigns.
The meetings, held on Feb. 21, saw Fink, head of the world's largest asset manager, discussing various issues with the candidates, as announced by the candidates themselves on their respective social media accounts.
With 101 days remaining until the presidential election, BlackRock's CEO's discussions with the candidates mirror those from six years ago, when Fink met with the then-candidates Andrés Manuel López Obrador and José Antonio Meade.
Sheinbaum referred to discussions about the "Mexican moment" on her social media, a term often used in reference to economic growth and the influx of companies through nearshoring initiatives. Gálvez also shared insights from the meeting, stressing the importance of rebuilding trust in Mexico to foster national development. This comes amid the backdrop of record levels of foreign direct investment in Mexico seen in 2023, coinciding with the ongoing nearshoring trend fueled by USMCA.
