After the resounding success of our 2022 study on digital physicians in Mexico, which provided invaluable insights into how doctors are navigating the digital landscape, we are excited to take the next logical step. Consider this new initiative as the "missing puzzle piece" that completes the digital healthcare picture in Mexico and in continued collaboration with FUNSALUD (Fundación Mexicana para la Salud), we're pleased to announce a new project focusing on the Mexican digital patient. This forthcoming study aims to chart the digital behaviors and preferences of healthcare consumers. With support already in place from major pharmaceutical companies, this research is set to offer transformative insights that have the potential to redefine medical services and digital solutions in the country.

Objectives

The core aim of this initiative is to offer an in-depth view of Mexico's digital healthcare environment. The research will analyze anonymous data to understand the online behavior of consumers, pinpoint the most sought-after digital medical professionals, and assess the adoption rate of healthtech in daily life. It will also delve into the motivations for using health technologies and platforms and trace the digital journey of patients to enhance online experiences and services. This comprehensive approach is designed to uncover areas for improvement and reveal opportunities for technological innovation in wellness.

To ensure the robustness and reliability of our study, we've adopted a streamlined methodology centered around digital self-administered interviews. This approach not only captures real-time insights but also ensures participant anonymity and data integrity. Our research is grounded in a substantial sample size of 4,000 internet users across Mexico, providing us with a confidence level of approximately 95%. This ensures that our findings are statistically significant and can be generalized to the broader population.

In addition to the sample size and confidence level, we've incorporated multiple segmentation criteria to offer a nuanced understanding of the digital healthcare landscape. We will analyze the data based on specific ailments, stages of treatment, age groups, socio-economic levels, and geographical regions. This enables us to examine the impact of various health conditions on digital engagement, assess how online interactions evolve throughout medical treatment, identify generational differences in digital healthcare preferences, and evaluate how socio-economic and geographical factors influence access and choices.

By employing this comprehensive yet targeted methodology, we aim to provide actionable insights that serve the varied needs of healthcare providers, policymakers, and industry leaders.

Study Sections

The research is segmented into six crucial areas:

  1. Digital Habits and Preferences: A deep dive into the devices and technologies most frequently used in healthcare.

  2. Health Information Search: An exploration of the resources and methods employed by users when seeking health-related information.

  3. Social Platform Interaction: An assessment of how health topics are discussed and shared across social media and other digital platforms.

  4. Digital Relationship With Healthcare Professionals: A study on how digital platforms are facilitating or hindering patient-expert interactions.

  5. Digital Economy and E-commerce: An investigation into online spending behavior on health-related products and services.

  6. Adoption of HealthTech Services: A review of the specialized apps and platforms that are gaining traction among users.

Special Feature

A unique element of this study is its focus on nearly 20 specific diseases, ranging from Alzheimer's to diabetes and beyond, each selected based on its national prevalence. This approach enables the creation of individualized, disease-specific reports that delve into the distinct digital behaviors and preferences of patients with each condition. These targeted insights will provide a nuanced understanding of different patient types and their respective needs.

Incorporating advanced data visualization techniques, the findings of this study will be presented through a business intelligence platform. This interface will not only display the results in a graphically intuitive and straightforward manner but also empower users with the ability to manipulate filters and variables. This feature enables stakeholders to create personalized versions of the study, allowing for a more tailored analysis that can address specific questions or focus areas. By combining rigorous methodology with user-friendly data presentation, we aim to make study insights comprehensive and easily accessible, attending to the diverse needs of all those involved in the digital health environment.

Why This Matters

  • Data-Driven Decisions: This study will provide actionable insights for businesses, healthcare providers, and policymakers.

  • Targeted Solutions: Understanding the needs of patients with specific diseases can lead to more personalized healthcare solutions.

  • Industry Leadership: Being part of such groundbreaking research will position any involved organization as a thought leader in digital health.

How to Participate in This Project

For organizations and individuals interested in contributing to this groundbreaking research, there are multiple avenues for involvement. The study is currently a work in progress, with results set to be published at the beginning of 2024 during a presentation at the National Academy of Medicine. Whether it's through sponsorship, data sharing, or expert consultations, your participation can make a significant impact. As the study progresses, contributors will have access to preliminary findings, offering an exclusive look into the transformative potential of this research.
